Tulips of the Valley inspire spring looks
The Tulips of the Valley Festival is now overflowing with Mother Nature’s vibrant spring colors. What better way to inspire you with a new spring wardrobe than a day out in the tulip fields of Agassiz, BC.
The Tulips of the Valley Festival started back in 2006 and is not as well known as the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Washington State. Located on Seabird Island in the eastern Fraser Valley, the drive is about one and one-half hours east of Vancouver via Highway 1. The big advantages of visiting this local Festival is that you won’t have any border line ups and it’s important to support our local communities and businesses.

We’ve barely been back for 24 hours but having such a successful trip, I thought I would share what made our time in the Fraser Valley so memorable…

604 Pulse – Best beaches for swimming in Vancouver, Coast & Mountains
We take number 6.
Kilby Provincial Park – Harrison Mills: Several people recommended Kilby Provincial Park as their favourite beach for swimming. Situated west of Harrison Hot Springs in the small community of Harrison Mills, Kilby offers sandy beaches in a tranquil pastoral setting along the Harrison River. The water can be cold and there are drop-offs, so it’s best to stay within the buoyed area. Still, if you’re looking for a riverfront beach, it’s an excellent pick. Check out this YouTube video of Kilby to get a taste of what it’s like.

Don’t miss: Pretty Estates; a glimpse into the history of the area via what remains of the holdings of Vancouver’s original timber baron. Now known as one of the most romantic resorts in BC, the estate was, for a time, the holiday playground for the Pretty family. And photos lining the hallways up to the period-perfect rooms reveal an incomprehensibly expansive and opulent way of life.
If you’re looking to get out on the nearby river, the area’s healthy sturgeon population offers a rare opportunity to see, touch and help tag these spirits of the deep. The BC Sport Fishing guides – whose weighing, measuring and cataloguing of every fish hooked is part of a larger conservation program at play – always prioritize the health and safe release of the fish over the photo op.
And there’s plenty of wildlife to be seen just by paddling the 18km river – one of the shortest in BC. Drifting along quietly in a canoe or kayak improves your odds of encountering the more elusive residents, such as seals, beavers and possibly even bears, from a safe distance.
